Fall in Yaletown

Anyone have any tricks to dealing with taking photos directly of the sun? I was trying to get rays of light in my photo, but ended up with a big white glow. I've had this problem before.

Shooting into the sun always tricky. Maybe a cirular polarised filter or ND filter might help. Otherwise take 2 pics, one exposing for the sun and another exposing for the leaves. And then merge the 2 images. Never tried it, but i know it can be done.

Good luck
